Can Cedar 3-peat?

July 12th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Football, Uncategorized

CEDAR - With Cedar football, you can etch certain things in stone:

1. They will play very hard regardless of the opponent.

2. The Redman will play classy.

3. Cedar is going to win…a bunch.

Despite losing one of their best quarterbacks and leaders in recent memory, the Redman look to make it three straight Region 9 championships in 2008 and have the tools and horses to do it.  Junior Kai Eldredge looks to have his time in the football spotlight. The athletic Eldredge, who is an all-state baseball player and a solid contributor in hoops, looks to take a more major role for coach Todd Peacock.

Key games for Cedar include a rematch in week two with Millard. The Eagles shocked Cedar last year and the players are looking for some revenge to get things rolling. Week one is an interesting matchup with Bear River. The Bears had a very disappointing 2007 season and they want to reestablish themselves against Cedar.

Cedar has a great home schedule this year, with a possible Region 9 championship against Pine View on October 3rd. They were the two best teams a year ago and went down to the final snap last year. Perhaps the game of the year for both teams will be on Oct 15th as Cedar hosts Hurricane. The game is on a Wednesday, so both teams will have little time to prepare in what certainly will be the championship in the 3A classification. Cedar will have the home turf advantage, but the Tigers have played well in Iron County.

totalUTAHpreps prediction:  Cedar 2nd place in Region 9 (3A)

One state playoff win

I agree with the first 2 points…the 3rd will be interesting. As important as Logan Obering was to this program, his departure makes me hesitate to say they’ll win “a bunch.” I do not doubt they will be competitive in every game. I do find it very laughable, however, that Cedar was 5th in the preseason coaches poll. Do they really do anything other than pick the same teams as they finished the year before? Seriously…
